I am addicted to journals. I have, I'm guessing now-haven't counted, close to 50 journals/note books in my workroom right now. Store bought, unused journals.
Oh, I've never paid full price for any of them. And they will all be used eventually, as I am an avid journal-er. But they are all cheap, small and will be filled up quickly since that's all I can afford to purchase.
Back to my new found favorite blogger, Jenniebellie. She created this wonderful tutorial creating journals using trash you'd normally toss or recycle. Like cereal boxes, as an example. She created a beautiful, arty, creative journal using cereal boxes.
Again, what's better than free?
Something you were going to throw away, but can now use. That's what's better than free.
I'm now creating an art journal. My first, but I can tell it won't be my last. I've already discovered things in my art stuff stash I purchased (at Goodwill-never at retail. Come on, people!) but had no idea what to do with, making wonderful additions to an art journal.
The water soluble oil pastels are fantastic! My new favorite toy. The charcoals and chalks are great fun too. I'm not crazy about the oil color pastels. These are very cheap ones, so perhaps I would feel differently if I had good quality. But, as far as I can tell, the work involved is not worth the end results. I think if I really feel motivated to pursue the oil color pastels, I'll just pick up some pencils, rather than the sticks.
I have water color pencils, water color paints, all kinds of mediums to add to paints and chalks, inks, stencils, stamps, clays, punches, buttons, metals, glitter, additives, and oddness. I am creating stuff out of recyclables like paper napkins and corrugated cardboard.
Tonight I made recycled buttons. Yesterday I made signatures for art journals from granola boxes. I have created roses from used paper towels.
I had wiped red paint off my brush onto the paper towel and it was laying on my work table, dried but wadded up. I needed an element for my journals interior covers. I wet the paper towel with mod podge, wadded it up and wrapped the outer edge around the center. It made a lovely mottled red and white rose. There are three of these on the interior covers.
I'm having lots of fun with this new art form and I will be sharing my work on here as soon as I have some things completed.
