Our "professional" set designer lost his mind at a meeting about his projected budget. It looked and sounded something like this:
I was present at the time and I'm telling you, the man went off like an unexpected volcanic eruption. Just molten lava, or magma if you prefer, flying everywhere. All because he was twice the amount he was supposed to be at for his budget.
In projections-nothing in actual work.
When we suggested we were going to have to make changes because we simply could not afford that, he quit.
With four-no scratch that-three weeks before we open.
And today he cashed a 1500.00 check he was given for his services. Which, he neglected to perform in any way at all.
So we are out 1500.00 bucks and now I have the opportunity to show what a fantastic set designer I really am.
Because it's all up to me now, baby. I had better deliver the goods, too. This is our first show for Saugatuck Civic Theatre and flying under this black cloud has not made it any easier, let me tell you.
But Peter Pan will come off without a hitch-they always do. Even when we think they will stink on ice, somehow they all come together in the end.
And this one is no way nearly as far off as some I've worked on. There is always that bit of a panic when it seems nothing is coming together, but then all of a sudden-POOF-it does! And it is fantastic.
And this show will be fantastic. The cast is great, the directors are both exceptional in every way, the costumer/s are fabulous beyond words. All that leaves is me. And I can pull this one off-no sweat.
Well, I may be a bit misty, I am certainly not sweating.
How utterly vulgar.
Please!
