I am on the education committee at church. I'm on every education committee at every church we go to, but that is really beside the point. My passion is education for everyone in our church.
Today is our informational meeting about hiring a person as the children's education director. This will meet with resistance. First, it will be a paid position which means convincing people to part with money. That's always a tough sell. Second, it puts someone in charge of the children's programs rather than the few people who have been "in charge" for several years. Thus opening up a potential "power struggle" situation. And third, we have recently lost our minister to another position. There will be those who think (my husband is one) that nothing should be done until we have a new minister in place. Let him take care of this...
I find this an incredibly frustrating thing. The education of kids is the most important thing the church does-in my opinion-and we are being bogged down by money and appathy. I won't let this go. There is far to much at stake to let the opinions of a vocal few railroad the church into doing what the entire church leadership believes to be the best course of action for our youth.
The handfull who have been running things have had their time. Now is time for a fresh start and a new perspective.
