As I'm sure I've mentioned, a small group of us are starting a community theatre company. Most of us have worked in theatre for a number of years, although some on our board are new additions to this wild world of theatrical productions. We are a diverse group.
Our summer production schedule looks like this: Two monster-huge shows, one smaller show, and one very large one day event.
One production will be partially done, as we are running it as a high school show first (in three weeks) and will use a lot of the stuff from that show for the big one this summer. The big one will be this little one on super steroids. It is turning into quite an undertaking. The more we move forward, the more our director comes up with ideas. The more changes he makes. The more I start over. The more changes he makes, the more I scrap that and start this...
I'm going to have to say: Okay. We are three weeks out. This is the way we are going to have to go now. We can't make any more changes to this production. Let's save the other changes for the summer show.
The creativity has been pouring out. We are riding a wave of amazing ideas and creative adrenalin. But the reality is going to come crashing in soon enough. I have way to many things to do for these shows to be distracted any further at this time. Let's get the high school show in the can and then move on to the next one.
But let's get one in the can first.
And there is also the added adventure of being the secretary on our board of directors. This has been an interesting addition to my plate. I'm getting a handle on the challenges I'm facing with this, but as we are still in the planning stages, the best is yet to come. This summer will be a real baptism by fire. Three shows and an event is a huge undertaking for any production company, much less a brand new one. But we are all determined to make this work and I know we can do that.
I just hope we make it through the summer with our minds and marriages intact.
