It was suggested to me by a dear friend of mine, Bill, that Jackie and I begin our own traveling puppet show. I am completely fascinated by all things puppet and have been creating some of my own.
Bill is a puppeteer and had his own puppet theatre in Chicago for many years. We worked on Bill's show, Rosena Rubylips Halloween Caberet, last year. We are working on this years Halloween show as well, which will be much more polished and pulled together. We were so busy just creating the entire show, we couldn't focus on the all important details. We just ran out of time. This years will be much more polished and will have many more characters.
Back to Purple Whimsie Puppetry: I have found a design for a portable stage, made of PVC pipe, which is both light weight and inexpensive to build. The stage will be easy to put together, I will cover it with dark purple fabric-of course-and use the boxes to hold the pieces and the puppets as the stage base. So traveling will be a simple matter of packing two or three trunks into my van and heading out.
I have been working on some scripts for the shows, but Bill suggested we use a musical score. That way there are no lines to memorize and we can concentrate on working the puppets, which is a great idea. One thing I'd like to work on is developing shows for autism awareness. Teach kids something while they have fun. And I'm adding some of my own unique touches to this endeavor as well.
I think this could be great fun, and I love to work with kids. I could do birthday parties, schools, church groups, company picnics, holiday parties, have workshops, etc. There are tons of options available with this idea. And I love that. It would also leave me time to work on my other Purple Whimsie creations: miniatures, dollhouses, jewelry, art journals and all the other things I make.
And the very best thing about this: I have nearly everything I need to make it happen right now. I will need some husband help making the portable stage, but this could be up and running by next weekend, if I really wanted to. I created a logo for the puppetry part of Purple Whimsie and can have cards printed immediately. Wow. The more I write, the more this sounds like something I'm meant to do. Everything seems to have fallen into place for this...
Another new adventure in my life!
