unable to use my right arm, I am still involved with Rosina Rubylips-the Halloween puppet show coming up really soon. We're putting it on in the lower theatre at the barn, which shall be very interesting. I am in charge of the shadow puppets.
They are very light weight, since they are made of paper, yet they are quite complicated too. The ones I want to do are complicated anyway. It can be done simply, but those aren't nearly as interesting. I'm trying to figure out how to make several bats fly at one time, spiders crawl all over the place, and skeletons dance and sing. All while bells ring, owls blink, moons change shape and color and witches fly through the sky.
It's a challenge, but I am having fun with it. My current project is the leaning tree and the leaning church and steeple. With the ringing bell...
I've downloaded all kinds of shapes and quirky creatures to use in the skeleton dance, called Fossils. It's about a minute and a half of only the shadow puppets dancing. I had hoped I could fill with more than just the skeletons, as I think spiders and bats and cats and pumpkins are all kind of neat too. The more action to keep the kids attention the better, I say.
Anyway, I'm working on creating the spooky church, the iron gate that opens and the scary tree right now. Those things need to be attached to the actual screen and not move. They are permanent additions. I would like to make them out of foam and then paper mache' them and add them to the screen by velcro, but I don't know if I'll have the time for that this year. Maybe we'll do that for next years show.
And I hope to make the windows and the various moons show up as colors using gels. I will see if I can talk to Paul tomorrow and find out where to get some. I really want some that have been fried. The more damaged they are, the better they will look as a spooky moon or scary creature.
The time keeps moving on, and before you know it, we will have to be doing this on stage...I hope it works out alright...
